Child Name Servers are DNS Servers which are registered with the Registry under your own domain name.
You have to register Name servers with the Registry, before you can use them as DNS Servers for registering other domain names.
Child Name Servers can be registered only by the owner of the domain name under which they are registered.
Example:
You're the Registrant of mydomain.com, and you want to realize two DNS servers, named ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com
To do it, you need to register ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com amongst Registry as Private Name Servers (or Child Name Servers)
NOTE:
This apply only to gTLD (.com, .net. .org, .info, .biz., .tv etc) and to newTLD.
Usually does not apply to ccTLD.
Registering and Managing Child Name Servers on DomainRegister
- Login to your Client Area, search for your domain name you need to manage, and proceed to the administrative area of the domain.
- Click the Private Namersvers button
(note: if the button is not available for your domain, it's possible that its TLD does not allow the Child Name Servers management, or it need different procedures)
Here you may:
- Add a Child name Server
Enter the hostname of the Child name Server you wish to create, and specify its IP Address (IPv4 or IPv6) - Modify an existing Child Name Server
You can modify the hostname, or the IP, or both - Delete an existing Child Name Server
